Loveboby Shih Tzu pure bred Shih Tzu dogs and the love story of the Lévesque family with the Shih Tzu breed.

Loveboby Shih Tzu's Story: or how love story with the Shih Tzu and dogs in general.

The Shih Tzu is our passion since we have learned to know this wonderful little dog full of character and of love.

We are located in the country side under the pine trees for the longest time, in the small town of St-Louis; near St-Hyacinthe south-east of Montreal.

In the 60's we had Beagles and we would participate in simulated hunting competitions, as well as being judge later on. Our elder daughter; Sylvie was always with us since she was 6 years old; she would retrieve the Beagles after the race!

By the end on the 70's we have decided to change our breeding direction; we attended Dog Conformation Shows and the Shih Tzu has conquered us! It’s just a loveable little dog, with a great temper, a proud profile, always happy, ready for a walk and play or to be a couch potato lying right beside you.

We have looked for serious and conscientious breeders from Canada, USA and Europe; because we wanted to have the best possible livestock by selecting for our pack the best breeding dogs we could find to have highest quality reproducers we could find.

And now you have even more choice from Loveboby Shih Tzu since our daughter Sylvie joined us in this great big adventure in 2006. We are proud to have transmitted to her our passion and expertise in the Shih Tzu breeding.

Our dogs and puppies are breed in a family environment, and if you come visit us will enter in a hose full of happy Shih Tzu’s very glad to have some visitors!

The Shih Tzu

The Shih Tzu

In this page we will talk about the Shih Tzu; his character and temperament, his standard in brief discover this wonderful dog thru our eyes!

The Loveboby Shih Tzu, a pure breed dog.

To resume the Shih Tzu's character: put a few traits from a lion, a couple of tea spoon of rabbit, two ounces of domestic cat, a little bit of Ballerina, a hint of an old Chinese Wise-man, some juice of monkey fun, a part of baby seal and a pinch of teddy bear.
That recipe is exactly the trait of a Shih Tzu and will give you a general ideal of its ever changing persona. But make sure that these qualities are constant one generation to the other, just like their beautiful physical aspect.

As a rule the Shih Tzu is a remarkably smart dog that has a joy of living. He is happy, playful and often a little rascal! If during a Canine Show when you admire a Shih Tzu, with hair down, sophisticated to the max with a thick coat waiving in the air with grace to the rhythm of his footsteps, his crowing Top-Knot, enormous mustaches of an old Mandarin Wise-man you will be very far away from the image he will give in the intimacy of the home. When he runs like crazy dozens of times around the park, in fresh herb or in snow, or when he jumps in the aisle like a kid or plays hide-and-seek in a flower bush with friends you then realize he his a Shinning Star, a little devil who moves fast like a rocket, stops on a dime, stays put like a statue for a second or two, and for no reason goes back to blazing speed again!  He can play like this for hours. But all of a sudden it’s the great calm. He sleeps or at least he pretends to, his head put flat between his front legs stretched to the front and his back legs stretched back as far has he can. He can stay like this for the longest time; absolutely still only his eyes will remain alive, tracking your every move! And it will be your responsibility to avoid him as you pass around him because when he is home he is the center point of the world!

In Tibet the Shih Tzu is a family member and a good luck charm. So in any case he couldn't do anything reprehensible and we think this as rooted deeply in him. Moreover, when scolded for any nonsense, he takes air completely bewildered and indignant, as appropriate. Anyway, he wants you to believe that there is absolutely no reason why you should be angry!

In China, in the imperial palace he had his staff of eunuch to look after him. He was treated with great respect ... But the story of his past is largely present in its attitude and it plays an important role in the formation of his very special character. In particular, a great facility to copy what he sees other dogs do. At home he is quite homely. He loves his chair, his bed and he has a clear preference for all that is soft and comfortable. He sighs extraordinarily when he found the right place to rest. Some snore of well-being and sleep on their backs with 4 legs spread wide apart, his head on the pillow.

The Term: company dog couldn't suit any one better then the Shih Tzu. He knows everything about you. He understand when he needs or should be forgotten or on the contrary when he came come and play with you. A Shih Tzu dog is always at his place. He is never obtrusive or annoying. He really is a Big Little dog!!

It's because this dog is an exceptional one by he physical aspect that he will please you. But know one thing: A Shih Tzu must be deserved and won over. He will be they way you make him, and the same dog depending how you treat him will either be an emperor or a mop.

Nothing is worst then a dirty and uncared for Shih Tzu. If you neither have the competence or the courage to clean him regularly, to groom him and to nurture him, well perhaps you should look at another breed. All the caring and attention that you will give his grooming must also take into account the psychological side as well. The Shih Tzu is first and foremost an intelligent and intentioned dog. He needs permanent psychological contacts to allow the maximum development of his psyche. If this is true for all dogs in general it is essential for the Shih Tzu dog.

While it has always been considered to be a full part being in China and Tibet; it's because he has finesse and a deep understanding of human beings that creates the phenomenon of osmosis between him and his master.

If you bring the spirit alive of your Shih Tzu puppy, if you give him access to your deep personality, you will enter even at a very young age in a deep communion with him that will only end with his own life. Be worthy of him. LOVE him deeply because once the Shih Tzu is yours its permanent.

Never forget his high and noble origins and treat him like a lord because he is one.

Shih Tzu Breed Standards

Origin and Purpose:
The Shih Tzu was developed in the palaces of China from Tibetan temple dogs crossed with other Chinese breeds. It was originally bred to be a companion and that remains its sole purpose today. Sturdy and surprisingly hardy, they are well suited to both city and country living.

General Appearance:
The Shih Tzu is an abundantly coated dog with a distinctly Oriental appearance. It is a solid, sound little dog that is rather heavy for its size.

Temperament:
Shih Tzu are distinctly arrogant with a character all their own. They are exceptionally good-nature, affectionate and intelligent. They are full of life and have an air of importance that cannot be denied.

Size:
The Shih Tzu is not a Toy dog. This is a smaller type of dog with good bone and substance. Height at withers approximately 9 to 10 ½ inches (23-27 cm). Breed type and balance always to be main consideration.

Coat and Color:
A luxurious long, flowing coat with an undercoat. May be slightly wavy but never curly. The coat may be parted from the root of the tail to the back of the skull. The hair on the head may be tied up to form a topknot. A bow or ribbon to be optional. Coat may be trimmed so as not to interfere with the movement of the dog. All colors are acceptable providing they have black noses, lips and eye rims. The exceptions are the livers and blues, which have pigmentation that compliments that particular color.

Head:
Skull round, broad and wide between the eyes with a definite stop. The muzzle is short, square and about one-fifth of the total length of the skull. The muzzle is approximately 1 inch (2 ½ cm) from the stop to the tip of the nose. The upward sweep of the front part of the muzzle should place the nose level with the bottom of the eye. The placement of the muzzle is directly responsible for the nose placement. The nose leather should be broad and the nostrils well open. Eyes should be large, dark and round, except in livers and blues where the light color is permissible. The eyes should be well set in the skull and
the expression should be warm and irresistible. Ear leathers drooping, set just below the crown of the head and so heavily coated that they appear to blend with hair of the neck. Mouth is slightly undershot or level, the bottom jaw is wide and strong. Teeth should not be visible when the mouth is closed.

Neck:
The neck must be in balance with the body length and must also complement the high tail set and carriage.

Forequarters:
Shoulders well developed, muscular and well set to allow freedom of movement. The upper arm well laid back thus allowing for the desired width and dept forming a good fore chest. The legs straight, well boned, set well under the body and fitting closely to the chest. Feet moderate size and well padded.

Body:
This is not a square dog. The length of the back from the withers to the tail set to be slightly longer than the height from the withers to the ground. Taking into consideration the fore chest as well as the area behind the tail, the Shih Tzu should appear rectangular in outline. The body should be deep, sturdy and well coupled with a good spring of rib. There should be little or no tuck up of the underline. A good fore chest is essential to both the movement and balance of the Shih Tzu. The top-line should be level both standing and moving.

Hindquarters:
Strong, muscled, well angulated and in balance with forequarters. Hocks short, sturdy and turning neither in nor out. Feet moderate size and well padded.

Tail:
Well feathered, set high and carried gaily over the back in a loose curve with the tip just touching the back.

Gait:
Should be smooth and flowing with the head and tail held high. Extension both front and rear. Front legs should move out of the coat in a straight line, feet turning neither in nor out. Rear legs show strong rear action displaying full pads on the move. The Shih Tzu has a distinct swagger when on the move that is enhanced by his air of importance.

Loveboby a Shih Tzu Familial environment breeding

All this beautiful experience of life continues, and doubly so, because our daughter joined us to continue our passion. Our love and skill ensure that the quality of our breeding will always be maintained.

When we decide to take our retirement, not for now, rest assured that you will always find the same professionalism with my daughter, and that SHIH TZU LOVEBOBY are here to stay for a long, long time.

WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW BEFORE BUYING A PUPPY AND BEFORE YOU START IN  THIS BEAUTIFUL ADVENTURE.

Buying a puppy: When you decide to purchase a new puppy; its a family member, you   must first think about what you want: do you want a small dog, medium or large? Do you want a hunting dog, a dog to jog, or a pet?

When your choices will be decided; on what you do with your new friend, get information on different breeds that interest you, be it in bookstores, libraries or the Internet. Read everything on these races. Study the problems of race, attributes etc. ... Then you start your research on the GOOD BREEDER. To see if you made the right choice make a visit to them, you'll know more then if this choice meets your expectations and needs. Sometimes you have to visit several breeders to find the good one or the good breed.

NOW LET'S TALK ABOUT THE PURCHASE PRICE OF A PUPPY

When you want to buy a puppy, your goal is to pay the cheapest possible? If yes,  well you may find it in the classifieds. But if you want a purebred dog, with good health, good temperament, looking for a breeder who makes a selection of his breeding stock, working with a good livestock, which selects to removes defects and  select the best qualities of the breed. The breeder puts a lot of love and time on his pets, because it is his passion. He wants you to know about his puppies health and their temperament, and above all to make sure it is a good representative of his race.

Buy at lowest price does not always mean a bargain. See what the breeder offer as collateral, the vaccines received by the puppy, the veterinarian's health record, registration Puppy to the Canadian Kennel Club, and if they offer good service after sale; much appreciated by my clients. It is very important to know if the puppy is well socialized and at what age the breeder let them go to his new home, etc. …

A Quality Puppy and in Good Health

The difference between a puppy that leaves at age 6 or 7 weeks and one that  leaves  between 10 and 12 weeks, is that it was time to live with his parents and other adults in the house. He learned many things about the canine hierarchy. There is nothing better than an adult dog, well educated and to teach the young pup.

Maybe the price of buying a puppy from a responsible breeder, seems high? Well, do not forget that the quality of livestock and the guarantee is there. This will help avoid the medical costs, since the overall health of the puppy is of primary importance. So, no health problems = less vet bills.

We are not saying that all dogs are not registered and purchased from a pet store are bad because they are many who do not have problems, but there is always the risk when there is no guarantee. And what about the temperament?

Now be sure to do your research. Above all, ask any questions that are unanswered for you ... Do not forget that buying a puppy is a contract for fifteen years. Make the good choice!

Shih Tzu Puppy Loveboby: The standard proves the quality.

When you buy a puppy from a breeder whose dogs are registered, certificate in proof, you can expect, that it looks like his parents, that you will see in our home.
The standard has been established for years by the Canadian Kennel Club for each breed, and what is not ours to change the fashion of the moment. SHIH TZU for the standard says small and sturdy dog, then how can you have Shih Tzus that weigh 5 lbs? You be the judge!

A good dog breeder of Shih Tzu

A good breeder is one who raises their dogs with love in a clean, well ventilated home, with periods of outdoor exercise, around parents and certified of registration with the Canadian Kennel Club. A good breeder is one who does not reproduce the defects, such as crooked teeth, etc.. and do not let parents living inside cages, all year long. The best thing is to go visit the breeder yourself. Thus, the good breeder will show you any installation. NOTHING will be hidden.
All breeders who make ads that they share a quality breeding how do they know they have a quality breeding without registration and certification standards that breeders of certified champions have?

The Price of Puppy

A dog is not like an appliance, where you can find the same thing among different vendor or specialty store, then you can compare prices, but a dog is unique in its genetic case, the selection made by the breeder as each potential parent breeder is different, so the visit to different breeders is essential to be able to compare, because a dog is a living being that can not be replaced like an appliance.

LOVEBOBY wants to say a big thank you for your trust us and for your support.
